If anyone has tried these drivers with Windows Server 2008 R2, please let me know. Thanks.
You really don't need the following information, but I leave it here for historical purposes.
Original Post:
Windows 7 again impressed me when I needed to load up my FA-101. I use the FA-101 as the only audio interface on my studio PC.
Doing a quick search you will find that there are no Windows 7 64 bit drivers for this device and if you try to run the Vista installer (FA_101_Vista_x64_Ver.1.0.4) you will get an error that it will not run for this version of Windows.
All you have to do is run Windows 7's (very cool) "Troubleshoot compatibility" wizard.
I have found the FA-101 to be much less susceptible to problems under Windows 7 than under Vista. Although the FA-101 driver did not contribute to my former 64 bit Vista's instability, the driver itself would frequently seem to get stuck. I was very used to powering off the FA-101 to un-stick it. So far, that has not been necessary with Windows 7. It continues to shine!
Man I wish I had your luck. I have worked all day on getting mine to work. I have done exactly like you outline above. Still no luck? I also am not able to uninstall it through windows 7 uninstall utility in the control panel it will not let me install or uninstall the fa-101 driver
ReplyDeleteThis is encouraging news!! I specifically got the FA-101 because of 64-bit support, and I find it won't last more than 30 minutes, but most times maybe 10 minutes before it stops working, and I need to power-cycle it again. I'm glad to hear there is a chance this might get better with Windows 7 (which I'll hopefully install the day it hits MSDN next week!) thanks
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteWorks with the FA-66 too.....
I have the same problem with Windows 7 64-bit and the Edirol FA-101 Vista x64 v1.0.4 driver: Playing some music works fine, but when you click pause in Windows Mediaplayer or Winamp, it stops playing. Then click the play/pause button again to start the music, but there is no sound for about > 30 seconds or more. Sometimes I have to power-cycle the Edirol... No problems with reaper which uses ASIO.
ReplyDeleteI just contacted Roland about the audio pause/playback problem in Windows 7 64-bit. They came back with this answer:
ReplyDelete10-28-2009
"We have sent a request for 64 bit VISTA/Windows 7 drivers to our corporate Roland/BOSS/Edirol headquaters in Japan. At this time, we do not have any information regarding when, or if, they plan to release them."
Hopefully they will fix this problem. In the mean time I use the Reaper DAW as a workaround which works fine to play and edit audio with ASIO 2.0.
this tips doesn' t work for me!
ReplyDeletethe install begin but it stop on a windows with just an "abort" button! the install doest finish!! help me plz
Yeah, that's what they told me again and again. At this time, we do not have any information regarding... blah blah. I've been waiting for a few months.
ReplyDeleteI'm sitting on a useless FA-101 because Roland can't support their product and get 64-bit Windows 7 driver released. I've tried these compatibility tweaks and everything else I can think of. Nothing works. Hey, just like engineers at Roland.
I finally found a way to make it work on my system.
ReplyDeleteI tried all these tricks but the installation just didn't continue after I was asked to turn my FA-101 on.
Here's how I got it working!
Run device management from Control Panel (or Start->Run devmgmt.msc). In IEEE 1394 Bus host contollers I had to change my host controller from "1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller" to "1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)".
Didn't even have to reboot and ASIO and everything else seems to be working nicely.
thanks for the tip !
Deletei had the same problem and it worked for me too !
happy to have found this in a post of 2009..........
How is it possible to change my host controller from "1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller" to "1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)".
ReplyDeleteChanging firewire to legacy:
ReplyDelete- Open Control Panel
- System / Device Manager
- Select "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers"
- Right click on "1934 OHCI Compliant Host Controller" and select "Update Driver Software"
- Browse my computer for driver software
- Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
- Select "1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)"
- (There are also two "VIA 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controllers" on my system, I haven't tried these)
- Next-> Drivers is updated...
On my system it complains about "a problem installing the driver software for your device, reason: This device cannot start. (Code 10)..."
IT'S OK, just REBOOT Windows 7 and it should be working. If it's not working (for some reason or other), you can change the original host controller back the same way.
Yo' the man !
DeleteIt worked !
thanks!
Hi there. I own an Edirol FA 101 and am having problems finding a suitable driver in order to get my editol fa 101 to work with my windows 7 64 bit pc.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed there is a way to get to work windows 7 if you have the windows vista driver but i only use to own a windows xp machine with my fa 101 xp driver.
What can i do?

Richard Steed

ReplyDelete32 and 64-bit Windows 7 drivers for FA-101 released. Yay.
Sorry for spamming the comments :)
ReplyDeleteJust thought I'd let everyone know that Win7 (64-bit) driver installation for FA-101 worked better than using Vista drivers.
I still couldn't get ASIO working without switching to Legacy Host Controller (see above).
I also have a fa 101 and installed it on my new win 7 laptop using the legacy host controller
ReplyDeletebut now its glitchy even when using just one soft synth

wow, ive been having a huge problem with my fa101.
ReplyDeleteim running 64bit windows 7, i tried loading the 64bit drivers for on fa101.. it installs fine, but theres no sound to it. windows recognized the drivers and everything, but nothing comes out.
could someone please explain me why?
and once operating, will fa101 64bitdrivers work with cubase 5 34bit?
hect.. Same problem
ReplyDeleteWindows 7 drivers DO NOT install correctly for some reason. If you are able to have the setup file run correctly, then please let me know how...
ReplyDeleteBrion
Windows 7 (64-bit) installer from Roland is still not working to install after all of the above, anything else?
ReplyDeletecould someone please explain me why?
ReplyDeleteMaybe Cuz you are using a 32 bit DAW app (Cubase) on a 64 bit system and Cubase wont use the 64 bit Drivers you installed. Does sound work with anything you run apart from Cubase? Should do like the optional media player.
64-bit driver should work with both 32 and 64-bit applications.
ReplyDeleteFL Studio, Reason and Reaper (both 32 and 64-bit versions) all work perfectly on my 64-bit Windows 7. I don't know about Cubase, but it should work too. Have you selected the ASIO driver and correct outputs?
